At the heart of Community Schools is a deep commitment to authentic family engagement. We strive to connect with families in meaningful, respectful, and inclusive ways. By fostering personal relationships built on trust and mutual understanding, we create strong partnerships that support student success and well-being. Authentic family engagement is linked to higher levels of academic achievement, increased attendance, more positive attitudes toward school, and higher graduation rates.

The Community Resource Center of the YMCA serves families residing in Brisbane, South San Francisco, and San Bruno. We provide individuals and families with basic emergency and support services to stabilize their living situations. We provide clients with crisis intervention and referrals based on an evaluation of their needs and qualifications for assistance. We provide a safety net of services to San Mateo County residents in need of food, emergency housing assistance, emergency utility assistance, shelter, and other basic needs.

Hello, Amira!
I would like to share my experience with the YMCA. They were able to help me with paying my rent while I was out of work for a month. The process wasn't too difficult, and it only took a few weeks for my landlord to receive his check. Overall, I would recommend the YMCA as they have also provided food and a Clipper card! I truly am blessed to have these resources in our San Bruno community. Thank you, Amira and Jose, for helping me support my family with Community Schools!

Since the 2023–24 school year, the YMCA has partnered with the San Bruno Park School District to support families by providing financial housing assistance, up to $5,000 per family to cover first and last month’s rent and moving costs—$200 Clipper cards, and other essential basic needs. This partnership has provided over $40,000 in assistance to 70 families in need. This vital partnership will continue into the 2024–25 school year.
Special thanks to our volunteers, whose support for Community Schools has been immeasurable:
